The Societies To Run Europe’s Biggest Ever Photographic Convention

The Societies (incorporating the SWPP) is set to stage the biggest photographic convention Europe has ever seen.

The seven day event at London’s Novotel, Hammersmith starts on January 12, 2010 and will set new benchmarks for ‘one-stop-shop’ conventions in the UK.

One hundred and fifty speakers have been booked, including ‘international imaging heavyweights’ Jerry Ghionis, Kevin Kubota, Charlie Waite, Mark Cleghorn, Henk Van Kooten and Trevor and Faye Yerbury.
And two hundred and fifty imaging industry exhibitors are expected to take stands – a 25% uplift on the 2009 event.
Phil Jones, The Societies’ CEO said: “The countdown to the biggest event of its kind ever in Europe has begun. Despite the recession, interest in the 2010 The Societies Convention is keener than ever.
Over 12,000 visitors attended this year but all the signs are that figure will be easily overtaken next January. Over 60% of our trade stand allocation had been booked by March.”

He added: “We are finding that increasing numbers of photographers are treating The Societies Convention as a ‘must-do’ event. They know the choice of seminars and workshops by world-acclaimed speakers is simply unmatchable – and they also know that all the key players in the industry will be on hand to demonstrate their latest products.”
Our planners will lay on over 350 Masterclasses over four days; over 12 hours of exclusive Business School workshops and over forty hours of free seminars and demonstrations.

Cardiff-based Dafydd Everleigh, an amateur landscape shooter, contacted PhotoTraining4U.com founder Mark Cleghorn when he noticed the site’s training videos had no subtitles.

Mr Everleigh said: “I was extremely upset and annoyed about it. Deaf people have been excluded from society for too long. I accept that even eighteen months ago subtitles on flash based movies were both expensive and very difficult to do - but technology has moved on and now providing subtitles is relatively cheap. There is just no excuse not to subtitle online videos – in fact it could be financially rewarding for training organisations as a whole new audience will be able to access the services. For example, the Facebook group, ‘Deaf Photographers’ – alone boasts over 1300 members.
There is no specific requirement to subtitle web-based movies but the Disability Discrimination Act which states that services must be reasonably adjusted and be made accessible.”

He added: “I contacted Mark Cleghorn about this and although it has taken some time, I am delighted that he is now providing subtitles on all his training videos.
His PhotoTraining4U site is a terrific idea because it allows people to learn what they want, when they want and where they want. There is far more flexibility compared to the conventional training approaches, like college tuition - and it doesn’t matter if you are ill.
